Wallpaper Arches
  • You don't have to wallpaper an entire wall. In fact, judicious placement of wallpaper can have a much more dramatic impact than covering the wall from corner to corner and ceiling to floor. Make a statement inside your living room by cutting the wallpaper into arches that reach high up the wall. A gothic arch comes to a peak at the top or you could go with the Moorish arch design that is rounded at the top. Trim your arches in wood molding to separate the paper from the wall and give it an artistic flourish.
Cork Kitchen Flooring
  • Flooring is a more important design element in the kitchen than in any other room in the house. You will be spending a great deal of time in the kitchen on your feet, so your interior design choice should be for comfort as well as looks and ease of application. Prefinished cork flooring provides a soft landing for all that time spend standing while cooking. Cork flooring is also available in a number of different patterns that provide flexibility when it comes to the aesthetic appeal of this durable flooring material.
  • Old-Fashioned Bathroom Fixtures
    • You can give your bathroom a definite sense of design style by looking back to the past. Tear out that shower/tub combination attached to the wall and install an old-fashioned, freestanding claw-foot tub. Bring the past to the present with even less replicated style by installing an old-fashioned pull toilet with exposed copper pipes. Little touches can provide texture for an overall design choice, so replace all those modern cabinet knobs and other fixtures with classically designed pulls and knobs that reflect a certain historical period, like Victorian or Colonial.
    Modernist Dining Room
    • A boring dining room can be given a sense of modernist style by painting a selection of 2-by-2 pieces of wood stark white to match the walls. Suspend these wood pieces over the dining table with nylon fishing line to create the feeling that they are floating overhead. Hanging a piece of modern art lends another element to the overall decorating effect produced by the floating wood and the stark white coloring.
