There are no bad colours ,only bad combinations.
The way colour affects mood and the proportion of its use can be major contribution to the total harmony of a space.
Even if you choose bold colours ,the overall harmony of a space should be your ultimate goal.
Whether a space is stimulating or restful,it needs to feel GOOD!
Everyone wants to feel good at home. You may paint a breakfast room sunny yellow ,or reading room a restful ,warm grey.In both cases .though you ll want the occupants to be happy to be where they are.
It is very important the colour you are choosing to be suitable for that specific room,WHY?
You may know how light affects the colour. Without light ,colour does not exist. For example in a shady room if you use bluish or greenish colours that will make the room look even shadier.
Red,yellow, orange will balance the shady cool light.
The best thing to do.You need to see the light through different time of the day,so you can make your choice.
Likewise a glary, bright ,sunny, overly warm room may look balanced and cool with blue, violet or green colours used on walls and furniture.
The textures, the fabrics you use are also part of that entire design and mood you want to achieve.
This is shady room although there is a large window, but the orientation of the room create the shades. In some case they can be used as nice and cosy positive feature.
In my own opinion I think this particular room is very melancholic.Of course always the choice of colour -most important thing is personal.
Trust your eye for decisions like colour.Use samples and you will avoid big disasters.
You can always stick to neutrals as well and black as contrast.
Many average architects, and few excellent ones ,have done this for their entire career.
They claim is the shape and structure they wish to highlight not something frivolous or superficial like colour.
I dont agrre!
Colour is far from superficial.
Every time you see anything it is in colour.
Colour is the most powerful tool that helps making your rooms look like welcoming home not like a box.
Enjoy the colourful world and create your own unique space.
